You want to create but you don't have room for that? Here are easy ways to create a craft room in a small space.

As far as I can remember, I have always loved creating. And the question of the room to create was always there. Back at my parents' house, I took the dining table as a desk. But it drove my mom crazy and so did I. The creation flow was constantly broken, and everyone touching it around me ... Of course, this quickly became a break for my creativity ... I was exhausted. I continued to struggle with this problem for years. Until I find the following really functional ideas ...

Creative hobbies are excellent but can quickly become bulky. If you live in a small house, creating and storing your supplies can give you a headache and be a break for your creativity. Here are some tips for creating a functional craft room.

1- No room and no space at all :

The size of your house and the (no) free space doesn't matter. Do not longer worry about it thanks to 3 tips :

  • Stick to the minimum :

Today's world pushes us to buy more and more. But you don't need all of these supplies. It's not about having them all, but having the right ones when you need them.

Sure, you'll need a few basics to tackle your projects at any time, but trust me, you won't need any more. Buying supplies, when you need to start a new project is part of the process. And when you have in limited space, you can't buy for the "just in case", we don't know when. So buy supplies when necessary only.

  • Get a utility cart.

The utility cart or the Swiss army knife of creative hobbies. Versatile. Practical. Functional. And easy to access. It’ll follow you everywhere and will easily disappear when you don’t need it. If you want to be organized and worry-free with your creative time and supplies, you need a utility cart. And go beyond by adding additional side shelves to make a folding desk...

-> You will find for sure utility cart by Ikea, Action...

  • Get organised.

With your utility cart, buy accessories. Boxes, organizers, hanging basket ... Make it a puzzle. Find the optimized solution to have the most space in this small cart. Another good point is that you can only remove the desired box when needed. You can also find boxes that fold in on themselves and give you even more space!

2- No room but a little space :

Only the lucky ones have an extra room to devote to their hobby. But still, sometimes we just don't see the opportunities that our house offers us. And yet when we search we find!

  • Get furniture and turn it into an artificial room boundary

Do you want an extra room? So, create an artificial one. Find furniture, a buffet or ... with doors and why not drawers. Place it in your living room as regular furniture. But it is a secret weapon. Closed it looks like ordinary furniture. And once the doors open, it reveals a small, but well-organized craft room.

  • Invest the space under your stairs or set a desk into a recess.

In a house, stairs are practical to go upstairs but not only ... They offer an unused space underneath. Likewise, an unused recess in your home. Many opportunities await for your Craft room. Find a wooden board and fit it in. Put your utility cart. Add clever storages (see next point). And stick to the necessary supplies ... TADAM!

3 - A room but a tiny space :

Success is not always what you see. This statement is so true. And this is what I learn during my quest for space to accommodate my Craft room.

Earlier, I explained my long time room space struggles. As soon as I lived on my own, I implemented the previous ideas. And it worked like a charm. But when I met my partner, I had to compromise. When we bought our house, it was my only requirement "I want a room for my Craft". Unfortunately, life doesn't always give what you want. Yet, this was not a reason and I decided that if I could not get a house giving me a room for my Craft, I would give my house a Craft room! And I chose a lost space in my house, to become my official Craft room. And so, more ideas came up ...

  • Use your wall and make the most out of it

Having a small space is a good start. But in addition, you need storage for your supplies. However, in a small space, it can be difficult to find additional space. And the walls are great opportunities. Nails, shelves, pegboards. You can hang everything. Organize your wall space by type of supplies, but also by colours or shapes. Enjoy!

-> On Pinterest you will find tons of creative ideas.

  • Overuse clever storage solution

Do you have a strange room with no straight walls and a sloping roof? No problem. Measure your room entirely. Every corner, every wall ... And find small but practical furniture. Like a fun puzzle, you will have to stack them. Help you of an online planner. Make someone drawing you well see what you can do on a different angle.

-> Ahead to an Ikea store/website they have plenty of solution!

  • Declutter often

Having a room dedicated to your creation will make you think that you have space. Unless you have 30m2 for yourself, you will quickly be overwhelmed with your supplies. Creating in a room overloaded with supplies will take you back to the days when you had no room. Supplies everywhere are limiting your workspace. This is why decluttering often will be of great help.

Now that you know all my secrets, I am curious to know yours. What your craft room looks like?
